HMS students bringing birthday joy to local families in need
The Express-O Cart, a student-run business that returned to Hampton Middle School in October, is helping to bring birthday cheer to local families in need.
Putting to use their entrepreneurial, sales, and math skills, Express-O Cart student employees have been selling snacks, drinks, and school supplies to students and staff since the fall.
Students running the Express-O Cart decided to use some of the profits from their business to support a local non-profit organization, Beverly's Birthdays. In early December, the students went on a shopping trip to the Richland Target where they shopped from a list of needed items.
On Feb. 1, the students took a trip to Beverly's Birthday in their new location and dropped off their donations, toured their warehouse, and learned more about the organization and how they can become a volunteer.
“Thanks to all of the HMS students and staff that are customers of the HMS Express-O Cart, you are helping us bring cheer to local families in need!” said Amy Holtz, HMS Special Education Teacher.
According to its website, Beverly’s Birthdays provides birthday cheer for children experiencing homelessness and families in-need.
